Squid - Take Notes & Markup PDFs

New: We partnered with Google to bring incredibly fast, low-latency ink to Squid on the Google Pixelbook and Samsung Chromebook Plus (with Chrome 62). See the difference: https://youtu.be/Oc66T_e7xwU

Take handwritten notes naturally on your Android tablet, phone, or Chromebook supporting Android apps! With Squid you can write just like you would on paper using an active pen, passive stylus, or your finger.

Easily markup PDFs to fill out forms, edit/grade papers, or sign documents. Import images, draw shapes, and add typed text to your notes. Quickly select, copy/paste, and move content between pages and notes. Organize your notes within notebooks and increase your productivity!

Turn your device into a virtual whiteboard or give presentations in a class, meeting, or conference by wirelessly casting to a TV/projector (e.g. using Miracast, Chromecast). Export notes as PDFs or images, then share them with others or store them in the cloud!

Squid is vector based - keeping your notes beautiful at any zoom level and on any device. You can erase entire letters and words quickly with the stroke eraser tool, or just parts of words with the true eraser tool. The selection tool allows you to change the color and thickness of your handwriting and even resize a drawing whenever you want without any loss in quality.

Squid takes special advantage of active pens on capable devices to provide natural, pressure sensitive handwriting. Just write with the pen and erase with your finger!

Squid is designed to be both powerful and simple to use, allowing you to take notes quickly and efficiently.

Overall, an excellent note-taking app! The ability to use styli and fingers for different actions is very intuitive, and editing works like a charm. The somewhat inconvenient UI (which always requires more actions than seem necessary), very limited selection of brushes, clumsy text and shape tools, and lack of cloud support (cannot read from or write to Google Drive, OneDrive, etc.) keep this app from a 5-star rating. But all in all, one of the best apps of its kind.

EDIT March 2019. This really is the superior handwriting app for my Chromebook. I would still like cloud backup to my Google Drive. Id like an option to double tap the screen with my stylus and immediately switch back to my default writing medium. I think it's cumbersome to have to click the button to get back to writing after highlighting or whatever. I also want a college ruled layout with the traditional pink margins on the left and right side. Keep up the good work!

The developers misrepresent capabilities of the basic version. Let's get this straight- all it does is handwriting and insertion of images. Pay $5 for typed text (free with samsung note devices, which go one better with OCR). Pay $ 1.50 per month for write on pdf (free on Acrobat Android). All this is only apparent after download, which seems devious. On the positive side Squid allows multiple pages which is missing from samsung.

I *love* this app. I've been using on my Acer touchscreen Chromebook, and it has been amazing. I import PDFs from class for notetaking. If the class gives me a powerpoint, I can convert that to a PDF easy enough, and then import it. You can also do screen captures from digital books or websites and paste into Squid. It works great with the Wacom Feel stylus that came with the Chromebook. I've use this app multiple times a week for about a year now. Only downside: no writing to text conversion.

Squid is probably the best app for writing on a 2-in-1 or tablet. Google Keep has much better search AND cloud storge so your notes are available on any platform. Squid is local only. I also prefer the infinite vertical scroll on Keep that doesn't scroll infinitely horizontally. All that being said, Squid's writing tools are superior. The single feature that keeps me using Squid over Keep is the PDF import. This is a pay feature but I find it INVALUABLE to import PDFs and notate them.

Not good for note taking. You can only view one page at a time and have to spend more time clicking around to get to a page. I don't like how it takes me to my recent notes page every time I open it. There are barely any customizeable options. This is a stretch but adjusting the textbox every time you want to type something because it doesn't fit on the page is so irritating, especially when you're in a lecture and the professor is talking fast. There are no quick transitions from pen to typing.

Best stylus supporting note taking app I've been able to find. I've been using it for years now and continue to be very happy with it. Originally had it for taking notes on my tablets, have since moved to 2-in-1 chromebooks and the experience is better than ever! Developers have always been responsive and put out regualar updates which is always good too!

Squid is a \"must have app\" for every student with a tablet compatible with some sort of stylus or s pen! Fantastic for making handwritten university class notes on the fly. I love all the different page options, templates, and sizes. The default page settings is a productivity booster. I personally upload the files as pdf's to Google Drive to have access to them from all my devices. I just *star the notes I still need to upload. This app has allowed me to go completely paperless as a student.

The way the features are implemented makes this the best out there right now for the Tab S4. I would LOVE to see nested folders or simple features like duplicate page in note, duplicate note in folder, and full screen in Samsung DEX. I get occasional problems where lifting my palms off the screen will scroll the note to the other side of no man's land, which is frustrating. The scrolling and zooming in general is also a bit clunky, but overall this is a great notetaking app.

Buggy on pixelbook. It is okay. Crashes every now and then and will freeze up. Sometimes the pen will lag. I wish you had the option to scroll through the pdfs instead of having to hit the arrow every time you want to turn a page. It would also be nice to be able to have files within other files (subfiles). Right now you can only organize your work so much which is frustrating. It works, but I have issues with it almost every day.
